25% Of Global Population Facing Food Shortage
The UN just released a report stating that as many as ¼ of the global population will be facing food shortages this year. This is not a far distant, hypothetical situation. This is right here, right now.
What do they mean by food shortage? In terms of UN language, that means severe malnutrition all the way up to death by starvation.
At lower levels of food shortages, termed food insecurity, their estimate is very, very far short of reality.
Disclaimer here. I thought it was the UN that issued that report. I read about it a few days ago but when I tried to find the actual report to include here with hard numbers, I couldn’t locate it. However, in previous reports issued by the UN in 2021, the UN had stated food inflation had increased by 30% globally and that 20% of the global population faced food shortages at that time, before the Ukrainian conflict. So for the number to increase by 5% of the global population is unremarkable as far as statistics are concerned.
